Psycho-History
Psycho-History
Section titled “Psycho-History”Aliases: psychohistory, Asimov psychohistory, science of imagining the future, predictive history method.
Fast answer: In Jiang Lens, psycho-history is the long project behind Predictive History: building models that read past and present well enough to make testable future claims. Jiang anchors the word in Asimov’s Foundation, but his version stays provisional, educational, and humanistic rather than a finished oracle.
What Jiang Means
Section titled “What Jiang Means”Jiang usually starts from Asimov: psychohistory is the imagined science of modeling large-scale human behavior across time. He then turns that fiction into a school problem. Students, historians, readers, mathematicians, programmers, and model-builders have to learn how to correct the past, test forecasts, and revise the analysis when predictions fail.
The human boundary is important. Jiang’s psycho-history cannot be only quantitative statecraft. It has to model love, creation, learning, agency, compassion, and the human heart, because those are also causal forces in history.

How To Use This Term
Section titled “How To Use This Term”Use this term for Jiang’s research ambition: a future-facing historical science disciplined by prediction and corrected by human complexity.
Do not use it as if Jiang claims to possess a complete mathematical oracle.
