The lecture asks where secret societies come from and answers by rebuilding Western religion as a sequence of world models: womb, war, empire, false God, inner light, and poetry as an encoded map back to the Monad.

Evil is born when one true God turns reality into obedience. In Jiang's reconstruction, mother-goddess religion begins from mind, fertility, and cosmic harmony; war creates property and pantheons; empire creates monotheism, truth, evil, and the individual. The lecture's pressure comes from a reversal of the usual religious story. Secret societies do not begin as villains in a dark room. They begin, in this account, as the underground survival of an older religious imagination. Agriculture makes the womb divine. War turns women into property and gods into pantheons. Empire compresses the world into one true God. Once there is one true God, there can be one truth, one evil, and one individual soul standing outside family or community. That is the birth of evil as a category: not disadvantage, not bad luck, not injustice against cosmic law, but disobedience against the one God.

Womb, Stars, Crops

The first religious world is agricultural, female-centered, and cosmic: fertility joins crop timing, astrology, bird, bull, and communal ritual.

The first world is not built from belief statements. It is built from agriculture's two emergencies: crops and birth. The womb becomes a divine portal from the spirit world into this one. The stars matter because they tell you when to plant and when to conceive. The bird rules the sky, the bull carries virility, and women have high status because they stand closest to the mother goddess.

That world feels strange because it has no private property, no fixed hierarchy, and no private sex. Fertility cults are not treated here as indulgence but as worship: sex is the mechanism by which the community tries to align womb, field, star, and universe. The old secret is not moral license. It is that mind, ritual, body, and matter are not yet separated.

War Invents Property

Population pressure creates discarded young men, raiding, wives as reward, property, hierarchy, marriage, and gods arranged as a pantheon.

The switch to polytheism begins with war. Populations rise, resources tighten, and young men without families become disposable. They need wives to survive, so they raid other societies. Jiang's image is deliberately brutal: they become a wolf pack. The reward for fighting is a wife who belongs to the warrior; property, hierarchy, and marriage appear together.

The gods follow the same politics. If your people lose, your god is inferior; peace requires admitting that your god must obey the victor's god. A pantheon is mythology as conquered order. Zeus does not merely sit above Apollo, Ares, and Aphrodite because of storytelling taste. In this model, the hierarchy remembers old divine wars.

Empire Makes One Truth

Rome makes monotheism possible by imposing reality; one true God produces truth, evil, and the individual, the three forces Jiang says underpin modernity.

Monotheism arrives with empire because empire can impose one reality. A war society still needs people; Rome can destroy whole societies and make its God the God of everyone. That is the political condition for one true God. Once there is one true God, the world becomes simpler and more violent at the level of concept: truth is moving toward God, evil is moving away, and the individual is the person who can step outside community in the name of faith.

The older worlds are more intuitive. The mother-goddess world and the polytheistic world both assume mind leads to matter . Modern science tells students the brain makes the mind, but Jiang treats that answer as a taboo: ask too hard how matter makes imagination and the answer becomes, do not ask. The older metaphorical world may be less literal, but it can describe forces like anger, vengeance, fate, fortune, and justice moving through people.

Christianity must therefore destroy polytheism not only as a rival religion but as a rival imagination. Yet an idea cannot be killed. Suppressed ideas go underground. The women's fertility cults become Mystery Schools; Mystery Schools become secret societies; and the secret they preserve is the same dangerous primitive: mind makes matter.

Orthodoxy Has Holes

The canonical covenant story is laid out in order, then opened by three questions: Eden, Noah, and Jesus.

The official story is covenant after covenant: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus. God gives paradise, destroys the world, chooses Israel, gives law, promises David's house, and then opens a new covenant through Jesus. The Christian version universalizes love of God beyond Israel, Mosaic law, and Davidic bloodline.

But the official story produces its own problems. Why is eating fruit bad enough to lose Eden? Why destroy the world through Noah if humans remain wicked afterward? Why does Jesus have to die? The lecture's secret-history move is not to dismiss these as mysteries. It treats them as cracks where the hidden version begins.

The sources of the hidden version are named as the Book of Enoch and the Gospel of Thomas. The first hidden answer is the Nephilim. Angels mate with women, their children become superhuman rulers, and the flood is not primarily about ordinary human wickedness. It is about destroying an unnatural power that has enslaved humanity.

The False God

The Nephilim lead into the full Gnostic machine: Monarch, Dyads, Sophia, Demiurge, prison-world, Jesus, and the divine light inside the soul.

The Avengers thought experiment is the bridge. Imagine superhumans save the world, then grow bored, reproduce, and make demigod children who enslave everyone else. Kill their bodies and they do not vanish; they become powers underground, in the shadows. The claim about the richest people as Nephilim is presented as secret-society belief, not as public proof, but it explains why the lecture needs a deeper cosmology.

The true God is the Monarch or Monad: the divine sun whose breath vibrates new beings into existence until vibration becomes matter. Sophia tries to create alone, produces the Demiurge, and hides him. The Demiurge knows nothing above himself, so he thinks he is God and creates Earth, Adam, and Eve. The cruelty of the Biblical God becomes evidence: only a monster would build paradise, punish fruit, demand loyalty, flood the world, and call one people chosen.

Jesus becomes the counter-message from the Monad. He is killed because truth would wake people up. The secret is that the prison-world still contains a spark of the true God. Activate it by love, spiritual happiness, rejection of money and status, and the soul can return. This is why the secret societies, in Jiang's reconstruction, accept repression and death: only by preserving the secret can humanity be saved.

Poetry As Initiation

Paradise Lost is treated as encoded secret knowledge: Satan's heroic escape speech and his argument to Eve become initiation into risk, transgression, and knowledge.

If ordinary people cannot bear the truth directly, poetry becomes the hiding place. Paradise Lost is not just a national epic. It is a text that becomes part of the elite soul, a poem whose secrets only appear to readers who already know how to look. Milton's blindness makes him prophet-like in this telling: the poem is spoken out of darkness as revelation.

The first speech turns Satan into a heroic guide. The devils are trapped in hell; Satan alone volunteers to cross the abyss and seek deliverance. Secret societies read that ascent as the soul leaving the prison-world, even as birth leaving the womb. Initiation means choosing alone to fight for humanity while knowing the world may hunt you for speaking truth.

The second speech gives the theology of transgression. If God is true, he should reward the search for knowledge. If good means anything, one must know evil and refuse it, not remain ignorant. If God forbids the fruit because knowledge threatens him, then he is false. This is dangerous because it makes disobedience the path to higher knowledge rather than the fall from it.

Satan Tells The Truth

Genesis is read against the official classroom interpretation: the serpent's promise comes true, banishment prevents divinization, and Eve knows through the inner light.

The sharpest reversal comes when Jiang puts university Milton against Genesis. The classroom version says Satan lies and Eve is stupid. The Bible, he argues, says the opposite: the serpent says they will not die and their eyes will open; they eat, do not die, and gain knowledge. The banishment is not the punishment. Pain in childbirth and hard labor are punishment. Banishment is containment.

The tree of knowledge gives the mind of God; the tree of life gives life as long as God. God expels Adam and Eve because if they take both, they become like the gods. Eve knows the serpent is true because the light inside her knows. The false God lies from outside; the true God speaks from the heart through the Monad.

The Nephilim return at the end as the bridge to mythology. The sons of God are the old gods: Zeus, Ares, Apollo. Their children with mortal women are the old heroes: Hercules, Achilles, Theseus. The Bible becomes a tremendous act of propaganda , rewriting polytheistic heroes as dangerous offspring under one supreme God and denying the older intuition of humanity.

The Light Inside

Two final student questions let Jiang state the practical secret: do not pray outward; look inward, make mistakes, and let the light redeem you.

The final question about prayer gives the episode its ethical close. According to these secret societies, praying to an outside force means praying to the false God. The true God is inside. The answer is not surrender but self-trust: look inside, believe enough to find the truth, and recognize that the conflict between devil and God, good and evil, happens through the human soul.

This is the most dangerous sentence in the lecture: it is okay to make mistakes, even to do evil, if you listen to the light and redeem yourself. That does not make evil good. It makes error the material of wisdom. The Monad rewards self-belief, and self-belief often means defying authority, breaking rules, and returning through the consequences with more imagination than before.

The last question returns to angels mating with human women. Jiang gives two explanations: either the angels are wicked because they come from the false God, or beauty itself draws divine beings and humans together. Then the lecture closes by naming the next problem. Secret societies begin as a noble mission; the question is how they become corrupted over time.

Questions

Why do men fight over women rather than women fighting over men?

Jiang answers that, in this model, women retain value to the group because they bear children, while surplus young men are more likely to be discarded under resource pressure. Those men raid other societies for wives, becoming the origin of war.

If this world comes from the false God, is there a true God?

Jiang says the Monad is the true God. It does not simply overrule the Demiurge either because humans must freely choose to return, or because human mistake and imagination allow the Monad itself to grow.

When people pray to God, are they praying to the true God or the false God?

Jiang answers that, according to the secret-society view he is explaining, prayer to an outside force is prayer to the false God. The true God is inside, so the task is to look inward and trust the light.

Why would gods or angels come to human society and have children with human women?

Jiang restates the question as why angels do this and gives two possibilities: they are wicked because they are made by the false God, or divine beauty and human attraction pull them into mating.
