## Thesis

The lecture introduces Gay Talese by rejecting research as mere information handling. The method is learned in the family tailoring shop: the mother teaches exploration by listening to wealthy clients until business becomes friendship; the father teaches reflection through precise, exacting work on clothes. Together they form the portable formula: exploration is the pursuit of curiosity, reflection is the pursuit of perfection, and the first assignment is to find Beijing through unnoticed things and contrast.
